The (Not so ?!) Great thing called "Expectations"

Ok ,here is something which i have been wondering and thinking about for quite sometime..Expectation--we all have this mental notion about everything in our life ,the outcome of an action both from ourself's and from others. Expectation is basis of many emotion-sense of satisfaction, fulfillment or anger & disappointment. The latter ones arise especially when we expect something from others..

Its so common isnt it? Phrases like "I spoke to that person and he/she dint respond properly" Dint respond properly --> dint meet your expectation . Then we go on to assume things (Stuff like maybe that person is busy or preoccupied or whatever)..which i never prefer to do.There is another way out-Why expect in the first place?! 'Blessed is the man who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed' was the ninth beatitude. -Alexander Pope.

Can anyone live with out expecting anything ? I dunno..maybe great saints (?) Probably if we condition our mind - our subconscious to expect any outcome or nothing at all.Just fulfill you duty as student, child, friend parent , whatever without expectation of anykind ... It sure doesnt sound easy (atleast for me!) but maybe not impossible..

PS-I do expect comments and your thoughts about it ;) :P :D

  1. ya it is very tough to be without expectations atleast when you are young and quite immature. It needs lot of patience and conditioning.

  3. I was also wondering about the same. But then its the emotions that we feel which make us human.

  4. yes it is the emotions that make you feel human and it does take training to not get let down but it is really not that difficult. If you ask yourself a concious question and bring to the front what was lost in your subconcious you can make that leap. Emotions come in only because we do not even realise that we have expectations.....do we really have to live like that not knowing what we expect?

  6. a saint may expect to attain enlightenment or reach a subconscious state...tats y he turns a saint...as far as i know and i have heard of or may if his expectations in life are not met " a state of moksha or nirvana u know " !A mother expects her baby,a man expects a good job ,etc..sometimes expectations are good..they give you some joy or atleast teach u "wat is best 4r u is wat u get "! Sometimes i feel the person who expects is less offended than the person who is expected of something
    (in my opinion):)
